In Reds split-squad Cactus League baseball Wednesday, they appropriately split the games.  In the first, heard on WRBI, the Brewers blanked Cincy 2-0.  The other game, against the Padres, saw a 2-run Tyler Stephenson homer in the first inning also score Elly de la Cruz and spot the Reds a 2-0 lead, then in the 4th Stuart Fairchild put a solo shot to center field over the fence, and Cincinnati went on to win 6-2.  This evening, the Reds host the Cubs, the broadcast beginning at 7:50, on the Sports Voice, 103.9 FM WRBI.

Nearing the end of the high school basketball season, remember it’s not over yet.  We’ve got boys’ regional championship games coming up Saturday, and WRBI’s going to bring you both as they tip at the same time, 4:00 that afternoon.  Batesville and Scottsburg will be on 103.9 FM, also on WRBIRadio dot com and the WRBI app, and Oldenburg Academy versus Greenwood Christian Academy will also be on the app and the website, so you can choose your game, and toggle between them if you want.

Some post-season high school basketball honors are out, including the Academic All-State teams.  The girls’ first team includes Nicole Mears of Franklin County, and Kate Weber and Mary Ryan of Oldenburg Academy.  Honorable mentions go to Carlee Adams from Greensburg, Kaylin Hinners and Reagan Hughes of Jac-Cen-Del, Riley Lagaly of South Dearborn, Batesville’s Claire Saner, Brayley Sundal of South Decatur, and Oldenburg’s Sadie Wachsmann.

The Academic All-State boys’ first team has East Central’s Dylan Maxwell on it.  Receiving honorable mentions are Jack Grunkemeyer and Sam Johnson of Batesville, and Jac-Cen-Del’s Carson Hughes.  Congratulations to all our local Academic All-Staters!

Our stars of tomorrow have been busy…  in middle-school swimming, South Ripley Junior High recently went to a triangular meet against Madison and Jennings County, with South Ripley’s boys defeating Madison.

And starting ‘em even younger, the Milan Aquatics Club says it recently had 20 athletes go to a meet at Center Grove, competing against several bigger communities.  From the Milan club, Batesville student Ross Lieland competed in the 10 and under age bracket, winning the 100-yard freestyle in only a minute and 8.4 seconds, then he also took first in the 50-yard freestyle sprint, 2nd in the 200-yard individual medley and 50 butterfly, and 3rd in the 100 fly.  For 12 & under girls, Kami Laws was in the top 10 in both the 50 and 100-yard breaststroke races, and Taylor Stock was 2nd in the girls’ 12 & under 50 backstroke, 4th at a hundred yards.

Men’s college basketball last night saw Indiana beat Minnesota on the road, 70-58, and Butler knocked off Xavier 72-66.

Tonight in the NBA, the Pacers host the Timberwolves.
