ISP: Trooper shoots at vehicle during Bartholomew/Decatur County chase

(Bartholomew/Decatur Counties, IN) – A Madison man was arrested following a chase through Decatur and Bartholomew counties and an officer-involved shooting Tuesday night.

Indiana State Police say the incident started around 10:30 pm when Hope Police tried to stop a car. But the driver refused to stop and took off, which led to other agencies joining the pursuit as police chased the vehicle about nearly 30 minutes through Bartholomew and Decatur counties.

ISP says the chase continued through a residential neighborhood in Columbus, and the vehicle went thru yards and circled homes before driving back toward officers.

Investigators say the vehicle drove toward a state trooper standing outside his vehicle, and he fired at least one shot from his service revolver.

Neither the trooper nor the driver was injured.

The driver continued to elude police for about another mile before he ran from his vehicle.

Police soon caught the driver and arrested 41-year-old Joseph Morrow.

He was treated at the hospital before he was jailed in Bartholomew County on a number of felony and misdemeanor charges.

The name of the trooper has not been released, and he has been placed on administrative leave, per normal protocol.

Detectives from the Indiana State Police-Sellersburg Post are leading the investigation.
