(Floyd County, IN) – A New Albany woman is in jail because investigators say she helped a suspect who was wanted in the shooting of an Orange County Deputy Sheriff last Friday.
35-year-old Victoria Howard was arrested on Thursday, January 9 in Clarksville. She was taken to the Floyd County Jail.
State Police say Howard knew that Austin Schepers shot Deputy Zac Andry multiple times and fled the scene. They believe she used the ride-sharing app Lyft to give Schepers a ride from her apartment in New Albany to Craig Street in Louisville, which is one block west of Wheeler Avenue. Schepers was ultimately found on January 4 and confronted by police. He was shot and killed in that confrontation.
“Investigators believe additional charges will be forthcoming against additional individuals responsible for assisting Schepers while he was wanted by police. The Indiana State Police insists that those responsible for assisting criminals within their efforts to elude capture by law enforcement will be investigated and charged for their actions,” said Master Trooper Philip T. Hensley in a Friday news release.
Howard is charged with the following:
-Assisting a criminal, level 5 felony
-False informing, class A misdemeanor
