(Sunman, IN) – A Sunman resident is locked up following an arson this week.

Ripley County Sheriff’s deputies were called around 10:59 p.m. Wednesday to a reported arson in the 9,000 block East County Road North near Sunman.

Deputies arrived on the scene and saw a 2017 Forest River Freedom Express camper fully engulfed.

Authorities say witness interviews and evidence gathered at the scene led investigators to determine that 33-year-old Tyler Downing allegedly set the camp on fire.

Downing reportedly fled the scene before deputies arrived.

After a search of the area, Downing was located near the 1200 block of North Schneider Road and taken into custody without incident.

He was booked in the Ripley County Jail on preliminary Arson (Level 4 felony) and Criminal Mischief (Class A misdemeanor) charges.

Assisting the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office were Indiana State Police, the Sunman Fire Volunteer Department, Rescue 20 EMS, and Ripley County Communications.
