(Greensburg, IN) – Greensburg City Council adopted the Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan that was presented Tuesday night by Decatur County Emergency Management Director Mike Snyder.

He told council the plan is federally required.

“It is from the Hazard Mitigation Act, and requires every five years that the county create one of these plans, look at our previous one, update it, and make sure we get an entire community approach and not just from a county perspective, but also our cities and towns in the county, as well,” Snyder said.

The Mitigation Plan was adopted by Decatur County Commissioners last month.

With that accomplished, Snyder is tasked with having the city and incorporated towns around the county adopt the plan.

“That is a requirement to continue to be a participant in the National Flood Insurance Program, and is also a requirement for any potential hazard or mitigation funding that you may be seeking in the future,” he said.

Council adopted the Mitigation Plan by a 6-0 vote.  Councilman Kevin Fleetwood was not present at Tuesday’s meeting.

Snyder told WRBI that the towns of St. Paul and Westport have signed off on the plan, with adoption by New Point and Millhousen pending.
