Dallas Gene Osting, 77, was born November 16th, 1945 to the late Marjorie (Brown) and Eugene Osting. Dallas transitioned to His Heavenly Father to be united with the love of his life, Dixie Osting. He was surrounded by his amazing family who spent the last few days sharing life stories and reminiscing about the good times that they all shared.
Dallas Osting was a 1964 Graduate of Greensburg Community High School. He attended Ball State University from 1964-1968, where he received his BA and was recognized for being a volleyball superstar. He received his MS at Purdue University and graduated with honors in 1972. It was an honor to have such a LEGEND as a father figure in this amazing community.
Dallas was married to Dixie Lee Osting on August 4th, 1968. They enjoyed 53 years of marital bliss before Dixie was called to the Lord. They had four amazing children, J.W. Osting, Wendi (Marty) Cross, Shane Osting and Kyle Osting (Ryan Barnt.). He also has one sister, Sharon (Ron) Lancioni and their two daughters, Gina and Lisa.
Dallas was also very proud of all his grandchildren and if asked, they are the best things in life. Brittany (Zane) Woodbury, Jaylei Osting, Lillian and Landan Cross, Sawyer and Addie Woodbury.
Dallas was a teacher, coach, mentor and friend to all. He coached volleyball, basketball and track and field. His passion for coaching was unmatched. Dallas was an advocate for the underdog and would share all his knowledge to help the athletes rise to top. If asked, most of his athletes loved him like a father and would go above and beyond to make him proud. He was fortunate to have the opportunity to coach under some of his athletes and share the knowledge and skills of the sports they shared. Dallas was also a Board Member for Randolph Central School Corporation, where he had a swinging door policy for parents and students to come express themselves, with the understanding that he would listen and address all at the meetings.
COACH O- nickname given to Dallas by his students and athletes. He was not only a teacher/coach but a mentor to everyone he came in to contact with including school board members, colleagues, coaches, students and family. With such a busy schedule, he was still able to fit in Drivers Education and share his knowledge of his experienced driving record. One would say-Who Is This Amazing Individual- his family liked to call him DAD. They are so fortunate that they could share this amazing man with all of you.
Dallas’s greatest accomplishments were raising his four amazing children. Being NAMED TEACHER OF THE YEAR and flown to SAN DIEGO to relax and enjoy some well-deserved rest with his FABULOUS WIFE and life partner. Mr. Dallas was also the biggest supporter of his son’s (Kyle) dance studio and all the Inspire families.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Marjorie (Brown) Osting, Dixie’s parents (Gramps and Granny), one brother-in-law Ken Schoenke and The Legendary – DIXIE OSTING (wife). He was also preceded in death by several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and classmates.
A service to celebrate Dallas’ life will be at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Towne Square Community Centre in Winchester. Burial will follow at Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester.
Friends and family may call from 2-8 p.m., on Monday, November 13, as well as an hour prior to services on Tuesday, all at the community centre. Memorial donations may be made to either the Winchester Community High School Band or to the Winchester Community High School Athletic Department, 700 N. Union Street, Winchester, IN 47394
