Wilford “Bill” Andrews, of Logan, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2022 at the age of 99 years old. Bill was born on Mt. Pleasant Road and lived his entire life there, only moving down the street when he got married. He graduated from Guilford High School and worked as a dairy farmer until entering the Army in 1943 and heading to active duty in World War II. Following his war time service, Bill proudly joined St. Joseph Legion Post 464 and worked as a truck driver for Dearborn County for seven years and then at Schenley Whisky where he retired. Bill had fox hounds and competed in field trials in nearby towns, as well as nationally, and came away with many trophies. He enjoyed good western movies, Midwestern Hayride, and competing on Jeopardy from his couch. He loved his John Deere tractors, treasured the brand new one he bought in 1948, and was a member of the Franklin County Antique Tractor Club. He also loved running around on his Kabota, playing euchre and enjoyed dinners that brought the entire family together.
Bill never met a stranger. He would approach people that he “thought” he knew and by the end of the conversation they were friends if they weren’t already. Bill was known to be ornery and loved to find people that would argue with him. Chewing tobacco was one of those vices he thoroughly enjoyed and never wanted to give up. Shortly after his wife’s death in 1997, a stray dog showed up at his doorstep. Bill adopted the dog as his new best bud, named him Hank, and together they went everywhere. Toward the end of his life, Bill wished to go home and see the horses that he had in his younger years. He loved his horses and enjoyed watching horses race in the Kentucky Derby.
Bill will be deeply missed by his children Bob Andrews of Blooming Grove, IN, Chuck (Betty) Andrews of Logan, Richie (Barb) Andrews of Greendale; grandchildren Jenny Maxwell, Curtis (Cindy) Andrews, Chad (Tracy) Andrews, Billy (Michelle) Smith, Kitty (Jerry) Wickersham, Annie Andrews, Terri (Chris) Friedhoff, Tom Andrews, Stephanie, Stacy & Ben Irrgang, Carrie (Tony) Stegemiller, Chris Andrews; great grandchildren Thomas Maxwell, Makaylynn Andrews, Alex & Colt Smith, Bradley, Jason & Kali Wickersham, Ashley Andrews, Corey Johnson, Cayden McGee, Kaylin & Andy Friedhoff, and three great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Edna Andrews, children Carol Smith, Nancy (Donnie) Irrgang, daughter-in-law Deb Andrews, parents Marie & Charles Andrews and 13 siblings.
