United States Attorney Joe Hogsett will resign from the position at the end of July. He has served as U.S. Attorney for Indiana’s southern district since 2010.
He officially announced he will vacate the position through a letter to US Attorney General Eric Holder Monday. He did not give a specific reason for his resignation.
“It has been an honor to serve in this office for the last four years because I have had the privilege to do so alongside a talented group of Assistant United States Attorneys,” Hogsett said in the letter.
He reflected on some challenges and accomplishments impacting his office in the resignation letter.
“We have set new records for the number of defendants charged and the total number of criminal convictions. The office has let the nation in average length of sentences imposed on criminal defendants.”
Some believe Hogsett is eyeing the Democratic nomination for Indianapolis mayor in 2015.
