Daniel Lee Graves of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on July 28th at the age of 85. Dan was born on December 15, 1940 to John Erwin and Amelia Alice (Sides) Graves. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1958 and later attended Indiana University. On February 24, 1963, Dan married the love of his life, Judith Anne (Williams) Graves, together they built a life centered on faith, family, community, and adventure. Dan worked as a mechanical engineer throughout his career. He was also a gifted writer who enjoyed sharing his thoughts and stories with others. He wrote for the Greensburg Daily News and the Gadabout; and was the author of the book Being Born and Other Simple Pleasures.
A devoted member of First Christian Church of Greensburg, Dan was known for his thoughtful spirit, love of writing, and appreciation for life’s simple joys. He enjoyed restoring and driving sports cars and motorcycles, flying his AA1 sports aircraft, and fly fishing with his son, Tony.
Dan will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, intelligence, faith and the lasting impact of his words. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Survivors include wife Judy, daughter Gina (Chris) Oliger, son Tony Graves and fiancé Sherri Sullivan, grandchildren Diana Oliger, Matthew (Erica) Oliger, David (Anna) Oliger, Michael (Lydia) Oliger, John (Meredith) Graves and Megan (Micah) Huffman, great grandchildren Caedmon Oliger, Addison Taylor, Lily Oliger, Charles Oliger, Mikaela Oliger, Kordell Oliger, Logan Oliger, Eleanor Oliger, Liam Huffman, and Parker Graves.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday August 8, 2026 at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm.
