Fred Renfro, 73, Rising sun

William “Fred” Renfro, 73, of Rising Sun passed away at 4:20 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2024 at his home, one day short of his 74th birthday. He was born in Milan on September 14, 1950, the son of Walter and Mayme Sizemore Renfro. He was married to Jeanne Wesley on February 14, 2009 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Chad (Sarah) Renfro of Cross Plains; one daughter Lori (Brad) Catron of Greensburg; two step -sons Joe Turner of North College Hill, Ohio and Walter (Aly) Barnes of Rising Sun; one step-daughter Megan (Caleb) Hall of Moorefield; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; one brother Walter Jr. (Linda) Renfro of Holton; three sisters Myrtle Moberly of Holton, Donna (Dave) Hamilton of Rexville, and Joyce (Keith) Scott of New Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents and his great-granddaughter Brya. Mr. Renfro was a 1968 graduate of Holton High School. Fred’s working career spanned many years, selling insurance in Versailles for the Hardy Insurance Agency, managing rental properties, being a member of the Carpenters Union with his brother, and owning and operating F & P Trucking. Of all his jobs, being a farmer was the closest to Fred’s heart. Fred was an accomplished guitarist and had been member of the Southern Knights Band. He was also a former member of the Indiana National Guard. He loved his grandchildren and spending as much time with them as he could. His hobbies also included gardening, fishing, and he and Jeanne spending their winters in St. Cloud, Florida. He had once owned a mini-stock car and along with his brother-in-law Dave Hamilton, owned and operated the Rexville Implement Company. Fred attended the Rising Sun Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 19 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Holton Cemetery or the Rising Sun Church of Christ in care of the funeral home.
