Local high school track & field athletes have competed this week in the sectional meet at East Central, a lot of them punching their tickets to Regionals.  East Central won the meet with 137.3 points, but nipping at the Trojans’ heels were the Bulldogs of Batesville, at 133.  Franklin County placed 3rd, among the 13 schools.  Batesville says it’ll have athletes advancing to regionals in 13 of the 16 events.  Coach Lisa Gausman says 1 of her relays won a sectional championship, 5 individuals and 1 relay taking 2nd, and 7 individual athletes and a relay running 3rd.  Those were all automatic qualifiers.

At the same sectional, North Decatur says despite finishing 7th as a team, the Chargers had some strong performances, including Madi Allen qualifying for regionals in the 300-meter low hurdles, at a personal best time of just over 48 seconds.  Allen was also 5th in the high jump, and 6th in the long jump with another personal best. Several more Charger athletes set personal bests, too.

We have more info about those track teams and athletes in separate stories, here on WRBIradio dot com.

In this week’s girls’ sectional 19 tennis at East Central, Batesville eliminated South Dearborn 5-love Wednesday, to advance and face East Central this afternoon.  Lawrenceburg also knocked Milan out 4-1, and is playing Oldenburg Academy this evening.  Sectional 20 at Columbus North has Greensburg taking on Hauser today, and Sectional 22 at Connersville had the home team beating Franklin County 4-1, so Connersville advances to face Rushville.
