Officer Injured, Man In Jail Following Sunday Altercation

A police officer was injured after a scuffle in Lawrenceburg over the weekend.

Lawrenceburg Police Department Officer Morgan Hedrick responded to a domestic battery call on Randy Avenue Sunday. Witnesses told him that Joseph Schuler had struck a woman.

According to police, Schuler’s behavior was erratic, as he was making threats and had blood on his hands. Prior to Hedrick’s arrival, Schuler had allegedly threatened to take an officers firearm and “kill everyone.”

When Hedrick attempted to detain Schuler he was hit. According to police, Schuler hit Officer Hedrick, while threatening to kill him and attempting to take his firearm.

Additional officers arrived on the scene and Schuler was restrained.

Officer Hedrick was treated and released from Dearborn County Hospital for injuries sustained during the incident.

Schuler is facing several felony charges including attempted murder, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, intimidation on law enforcement, and criminal confinement strangulation.

Lawrenceburg Police were assisted by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, Aurora Police Department, and Lawrenceburg EMS.
