(Greensburg, IN) – The Lake McCoy Conservancy, along with the Indiana DNR Division of Water and engineering consultants, continues to monitor and address structural concerns identified at the Lake McCoy Dam.
A controlled release of water took place Sunday morning around 7:00, with a goal of gradually lowering the lake level and reducing pressure on the dam, while engineering assessments continue.
Local officials say the National Weather Service erroneously put out information about the dam failing, and quickly emphasized that the situation is a controlled operation.
However, residents along Cobbs Fork should be aware of higher water levels.
Officials say the controlled release is a proactive mitigation measure and should not be interpreted as an indication that dam failure is imminent.
The controlled release is expected to continue until the lake reaches a target elevation determined by engineers.
