Water quality notice due to reporting error

Greensburg, IN — A recent notice in the classified section has caused a stir in the City of Greensburg. The notice, published on February 2, 2021 stated “Our water system recently violated a drinking water standard.”

From January through December of 2020, the City did not monitor for regulated inorganic contaminants (IOCs), volatile organic contaminants (VOCs), and nitrates. The notice continues that there was no immediate risk to city water customers.

Rick Denny, Superintendent for the City of Greensburg Water, explains that the testing, that is performed once per year was missed for reporting due to miscommunications with the state. Denny further explained that as the city has never been in violation of this contaminant in the water system, it only has to be tested once per year and that after learning of the mishap, it was immediately tested and fell within acceptable numbers for the state as required.

Denny reiterated that at no time were the citizens of Greensburg in any danger from water contaminates.
