Thomas Paul Buck enjoyed life to the fullest. He was named after his Uncle Paul – who was accidentally killed on his ship home from the war. His parents, Merelyn and John Buck, were extremely proud of their son and supported his endeavors. His younger days were spent doing active things-especially sports. Little League baseball was a summer calling for him. In junior high and high school, basketball took the number one spot for his attention. Tom could light up the basketball court and ignite the energy in the gym. He did whatever it took to make his teammates better and to secure a school victory. Those Bulldog teams put BHS on the map. His dad told him, “Be a good loser-but, don’t ever lose.” …AND “If you lose, don’t get mad-get even. ”After high school (1971 BHS graduate), he played college ball at Manatee Junior College in Florida. Tom made life pretty ON THE GO for his two older sisters, Mitzi (Werner-Gerry) And Jenny (Menser-Jim).
He lived in Hamburg, Indiana for many years. Tom had two children: a daughter, Amber (Dyer-Bill) and a son Travis Buck (Alisha). Those two’s offspring gave him six grandchildren: Jaden, Kaitlyn, Mason, Ki, Cadence and Dominic. Tom had a caring heart and helping hands-that would reach out and be there whenever and for whatever his grandANGELS needed him. He supported his nephew and two nieces also.
From Hamburg, he moved to Greensburg, Indiana. He worked there at Crown Zellerbach for multiple years – before working at Valeo – where he retired a year or so ago. He discovered TOTAL retirement wasn’t for him-then made the decision to work part-time for the Decatur County Parks and Recreation Department (which he was doing on the day he died). Tom was a very loyal worker.
He met April Walker in 2000. They golfed together on famous golf courses (around the world). He had a dream of someday working at a golf course in a warmer climate. April had two daughters: Brenna (Canterbury-Josh) and Heather (McGowan-Brian) who gave Tom three more grandchildren: Allie, Kinley and Hayden. Tom and April were always good to their loved ones. They recently took April‘s mother (Jerry Walker) to visit her home state of Oklahoma to visit old relatives and landmarks from her past.
Tom took such pride in his front yard. His flowers were some of the most attractive lawn landscaping arrangements in Greensburg. Tom enjoyed to fish-especially with his dad in his earlier years-and later with his son. He liked boating and was glad when his family members could join him. He certainly made his mark wherever he went – you were indeed lucky if you knew him.
Visitation will be Friday, June 21, from 4-8pm and funeral service will be on Saturday June 22, 2019 at 10:00am all at Meyers Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at United Methodist Cemetery in Batesville.
