Greensburg walked off Batesville 4-3 in JV baseball last evening. Eric Witkemper’s RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning snapped a 3-3 tie and won it for the Pirates. Eli Doll led the Bulldogs at the plate by going 3-for-4.
Milan golf bested South Decatur 198-225 at Wyaloosing Creek Golf Course. The Indians’ Ethan Clark took medalist honors with a 2-over-par 38.
It was Batesville over Shelbyville 153-184 at Blue Bear Golf Club. The Bulldogs’ Ian Hixson was medalist after firing an Even-Par-36.
The Reds beat the Colorado Rockies 6-4 in the series finale yesterday afternoon at Great American Ball Park in a game heard on WRBI. TJ Friedl clubbed a two-run homer in the 5th inning to give the Reds the lead after they fell behind 2-1. Andrew Abbott gets the win to improve to 1-2. Abbott went six innings, gave up five hits, two earned runs, walked two and struck out five. Former Red Michael Lorenzen took the loss and drops to 2-3. The Reds win the series two games to one and end the homestand 4-2. Cincinnati is 20-11 on the season and remains in first place in the NL Central heading into May. The Reds embark on a two-city, seven-game road trip tonight when they begin a three-game set in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. Brady Singer makes the start for the Reds. The Pirates will counter with Mitch Keller. Broadcast time tonight on 103.9 FM is 6:15.
The Reds have placed left handed pitcher Brandon Williamson on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder fatigue. Williamson exited Wednesday night’s game after three innings. In a corresponding roster move, the team recalled righthanded pitcher Zach Maxwell from Triple-A Louisville.
The Cincinnati Bengals have declined the fifth-year option on defensive end Myles Murphy’s rookie contract. This gives the Bengals more flexibility to negotiate with Murphy on a long-term deal. Murphy recorded 5 1/2 sacks last season.
The Dallas Wings beat the Indiana Fever 95-80 in WNBA preseason action last night in downtown Indy. The two teams meet in the regular season opener next Saturday.
