The Milwaukee Brewers outlasted the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 in 10 innings in the series opener at Great American Ball Park heard last night on WRBI. All of the game’s runs crossed the plate in the extra frame. Tyler Stephenson broke up Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff’s perfect game with a single to left centerfield in the 6th inning. Brady Singer went a season-high seven innings and gave up two hits, no runs, and two walks while striking out seven. The Reds try to even the series tonight when Nick Lodolo (2-2, 6.12 ERA) goes to the mound. The Brewers counter with righthander Brandon Sproat (1-4, 5.94 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:40 on 103.9 FM.

Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz is expected to come off the injured list today. He’s been out since June 1 with a right hamstring strain.

Before last night’s game, the Reds activated from the 15-day IL righthanded pitcher Pierce Johnson; selected from Triple-A Louisville righthanded pitcher Julian Garcia; optioned to Louisville pitcher Zach Maxwell; and designated for assignment pitcher Chris Paddack.

The Indiana Fever knocked off the Phoenix Mercury 86-77 in WNBA action last night in downtown Indianapolis. The Fever overcame a 16-point deficit to run their record 10-7. Caitlin Clark led all scorers with 24 points. She also dished out nine assists. Kelsey Mitchell added 22 points. The two teams meet again tomorrow night in the Circle City.

Founding WNBA President Val Ackerman will receive the Lin Dunn Inspiring Women Award during the Indiana Fever’s game this Saturday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse against the Los Angeles Sparks. Ackerman, who currently serves as the Big East commissioner, led the league during its first eight seasons. The ceremony will take place at halftime as the WNBA celebrates its 30th anniversary season.
