South Ripley to use state grant for STEM integration during ’23-’24 school year

(Versailles, IN) – The South Ripley School Corporation has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Education for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) integration during the 2023-2024 school year.

“I want to say thanks to high school principal Joe Ralston, who took the lead in writing this grant, working with our other administrators,” said Superintendent Rob Moorhead. “A lot of this money is going to be spent to keep our Project Lead the Way programs going.”

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a hands-on, thorough curriculum that features problem-solving activities. But Moorhead says it doesn’t come cheap.

“To keep the supplies replenished, pay all of the fees that go along with accessing the Project Lead the Way curriculum, this $50,000 grant is going to really be a good thing,” he added.

South Ripley Junior High and Elementary have achieved STEM certification, while the high school is working toward it, and Moorhead says PLTW courses are a big part of what the corporation does with STEM education.

Moorhead appeared on Tuesday’s edition of The Daily Pod. The complete interview is available here.
