Donna Sue (Haburay) Richey, 80

Donna Sue (Haburay) Richey, 80, of Greensburg passed away on June 10, 2023 at Aspen Place Health Campus. She was born on June 15, 1942. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jacque; daughter Paula J. Schlax (Peter) of Lewiston ME; son Jeffrey D. Richey (Beth) of Milton VT; two granddaughters, Sarah Schlax (Matt Hickman) of Des Moines IA, and Norah Schlax of Lewiston ME; one sister Elaine Hartman (Albert-deceased) of Bloomington IN; and brother John Haburay of Cary NC.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents John and Elizabeth (Jaroscak) Haburay; sister Betty Jo Haburay, all of East Chicago IN; and sister-in-law Judith A. Richey of Greensburg IN.
Donna was a 1960 graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School, and Indiana State University in 1964 with a degree in Special Education. She was a teacher in the Hammond Indiana school system for two years; attendance administrator for six years at Newtown, CT, HS; and for several years was the office manager for Kaplan Educational Systems in Memphis TN.
Donna took great pride in her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting Afghans for family and friends, playing Bunco with her neighborhood club, and collecting Beanie Babies. Donna had a terrific sense of humor and loved playing games with her family members. She loved going to the casinos, her dollar bets on football games, and days when the Cubs won and the Yankees lost. Donna was incredibly generous to others, with thoughtful cards, kind words of encouragement, and frequent phone calls to her loved ones.
During her later years her health began to fail and Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg was her home for the last five years where the nurses and staff became a part of her family. Our family extends their sincere appreciation to Aspen Place for their professional and caring services.
The family invites you to come and share your stories with each other as you mingle and reminisce in a reception style visitation at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
