Senator Leising recognized for her work those with disabilities

Indianpolis, In. — The Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services (IPAS) Commission recently presented me with an award for my legislation that protects the rights of individuals with disabilities.

The IPAS Commission is responsible for assuring adequate legal and advocacy services for the protection, promotion and empowerment of the rights and interests of individuals with disabilities in Indiana.

Senate Enrolled Act 9, which was recently signed into law by Gov. Eric Holcomb, works in line with this mission. SEA 9 allows an individual committed to an institution for a mental illness to use the address of the institution or the address where they live when not in the institution for the purpose of voting.

Based on our Constitution, all eligible Indiana residents deserve the opportunity to vote, and this law makes it easier for those with mental illnesses to register.
