ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, GUAM – Rescue workers are searching for a Hoosier airman who has been missing in Guam since Monday morning.

Air Force officials say Alec Dye, 24, of Mooresville, was last seen near Tarague Beach, which is close to the base where he is currently stationed.

The Dye family has launched an online donation page in order to raise money to travel to Guam and help search for their missing son.

His disappearance hits home for Cincinnati Reds catcher and Indiana native Tucker Barnhart.

“Alec and I kind of grew up together and hung out growing up, it is just a very sad situation,” Barnhart told WRBI Wednesday afternoon.

He describes Dye as a good friend, huge Reds fan, and exceptional basketball player.

“He never played baseball that I can remember, but he was a hell of a basketball player,” Barnhart said. “In fact, he went to the University of Indianapolis for one year and played basketball. He has always been a competitive guy and we were pretty good friends and hung out quite a bit.”

Barnhart hopes the family can receive enough donations to make the trip, saying, “Any little bit will help.”

“Thoughts and prayers definitely help but they also are trying to get over to Guam and help aid search for their son,” he said.

Emergency workers are searching the area as there is no word on what led to the disappearance.
