Of course, during Major League Baseball’s spring training, players get cut and/or reassigned as teams shape their opening day rosters.

One announcement made by the Reds Wednesday had nothing to do with a cut.  Manager David Bell told top pitching prospect Hunter Greene he has not only made the roster but also will also be the fourth starter in the Reds rotation.

Greene was Cincinnati’s No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 draft.  His fastball routinely hits triple digits on the gun.  His advancement to the majors was hampered for about 2-1/2 years due to both Tommy John surgery and the pandemic which canceled the 2020 Minor League season.

In 2021, Greene pitched for both Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville where he had 139 strikeouts over 106 innings pitched and a 3.30 ERA.

Greene’s first start in 2022 will be in Atlanta on Sunday, April 10th.
