Raver one of many Indiana execs urging elected officials to participate in ‘Manufacturing Day’ activities

Batesville, In. — Brian Burton, president and CEO of the Indiana Manufacturers Association and leaders from Indiana companies are developing strategies to encourage elected leaders to participate in Manufacturing Day activities.

“Indiana is the most manufacturing-intensive state in the U.S., with 30% of our economic output generating from manufacturing. It is critical that our elected representatives understand there is no better way to learn about the importance of manufacturing than by actually visiting a local manufacturing facility,” Mr. Burton stated. “It is our hope that these interactions will lead to greater understanding about our industry, and will result in 2018 being a more manufacturing-focused legislative session. Workforce continues to be our largest barrier to manufacturing growth and expansion in Indiana. We need more done to make our workforce system truly employer driven.”

Joe Raver, President and CEO of Hillenbrand, stated, “It’s critically important that all of us – business, education, and government – work together to attract, develop, and retain a workforce that supports our ability to compete and thrive on a global basis. We need a coordinated effort in order to effectively develop our system and future workforce.”

Manufacturing Day is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. Manufacturing Day occurs on the first Friday in October – this year Manufacturing Day is October 6, 2017. The IMA encourages elected officials who wish to take part in this challenge, there’s more information here.
