A law enforcement team of scuba divers assisted Osgood police by finding property believed to be from a residential burglary that occurred over a year ago.
Indiana Conservation Officers SCUBA Dive Team recovered a rifle in the Osgood Quarry on Thursday.
A witness to the burglary gave statements to Osgood Police of where several stolen items may be located and the rifle was one of the items.
The Osgood Police Department then asked for assistance from the scuba team, who along with the Osgood Fire Department, cut a hole in the 4-inch thick ice covered quarry. They entered the 41 degree water and within minutes recovered the suspected rifle 9 feet underwater.
“These gentleman helped us put closure on a year old burglary in our town, and we are very grateful for their risks and hard work,” Osgood Marshal Eric Roush said.
Authorities did not release suspect or burglary details.
Officers encourage those that have information on a crime or have discovered property to contact their local law enforcement agency.
