Philip H. Meisberger, 73, of New Marion passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at University Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Indianapolis on July 6, 1943 the son of Rom and Gertrude Eckstein Meisberger. He was married to Rita Cole on September 19, 1964 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons Jeff (Jeanie) Meisberger of Montrose, Colorado, and Scott (Amy) Meisberger of Versailles; two daughters Lori (Billy) Gabbard of Cross Plains, and Melissa Caplinger of New Marion; grandchildren Kelsey, Kaylin, Jordan, Matthew, and Nathan (Melanie) Meisberger, Tyler, and Devon Gabbard, Jakob, Joseph, and Ellie Ayers, Zack, and Cheyenne Caplinger; one great-grandchild Karrin Mae Meisberger; 8 brothers Melvin (Sandra), David (Sherron), John (Diane), Dwight, and Charles Meisberger all of New Marion, Donald (Josie) Meisberger of Camby, Art Meisberger of Olean, and Mark Meisberger of Indianapolis; two sisters Dolores Souder, and Mary (Greg) Hilton both of New Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Meisberger was a 1961 graduate of New Marion High School and served with the US Army Reserves from 1961 to 1965. He was a former employee of US Shoe in Osgood and retired from Seagrams in Lawrenceburg. Philip also farmed and loved to tinker with his Volkswagens and developed the reputation that if it needed fixing, find Philip and he would find a way to fix it. The highlight of his life was following any South Ripley sports team and he could always be found rooting on the Raiders. Philip was a member of the St. Magdalene Catholic Church and was a former member of the New Marion Fire Department. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the St. Magdalene Cemetery at Madison. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the South Ripley boys and girls varsity basketball program in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home at Versailles.
