Statehouse — Newly-elected local State Representatives Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville) and Jennifer Meltzer (R-Shelbyville) have been appointed to serve on key House committees at the Statehouse.

Patterson will serve on the House Roads and Transportation Committee, the Committee on Family, Children, and Human Affairs, and the Environmental Affairs Committee.

“I’m excited to serve on these committees and ensure voices in our district are heard as we examine proposals for new laws,” Patterson said. “Whether it’s helping our state’s most vulnerable or addressing our state’s infrastructure needs, I look forward to rolling up my sleeves to address the state’s challenges and find opportunities to improve.”

Meltzer will serve on the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee, the House Judiciary Committee, and the House Committee on Local Government.

“Supporting public safety and law enforcement are top priorities for me,” Meltzer said. “As an attorney, I look forward to leaning on my experience to help dive into the complex issues affecting our criminal justice system, like mental health and addiction, and working hard to identify ways our state can improve.”

Both Patterson and Meltzer were elected to the House for the first time last month.

Patterson represents House District 55, which includes all of Franklin, Fayette, and Union counties, and portions of Decatur, Ripley, and Rush counties.

Meltzer represents House District 73, which includes portions of Decatur, Bartholomew, Jennings, and Shelby counties.

These committees will begin their work with the start of the 2023 legislative session on January 9.
