Millhousen, IN—Firefighters with the Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched around 2 am this morning to a call of a fully involved house fire on 1000s in Decatur County. A fireman in a personal vehicle arrived on the scene before the fire trucks and identified the fire as a barn. Said barn had already collapsed by the time the fire trucks arrived on the scene.
According to Marion Township Fire Chief Matt Stone, Westport Community Volunteer Fire Department had the first fire truck to arrive on scene shortly followed by Marion Township’s fire truck.
The barn was used to store hay and straw which caused several hours of work for the firemen due to pulling and moving bales to get to hotspots in the fire. Crews were on scene for roughly 6 hours.
Westport, Letts Community Volunteer Fire Department, DCMH EMS, and Decatur County Sheriffs Department all assisted at the scene.
The fire was ruled as undetermined. The homeowner was asleep when the first units arrived. There were no injuries reported. The tenets are concerned as the hay and straw is used to feed livestock, but think they will have a plan to feed the animals.
