New Palestine family shocked by large snake in city park

New Palestine, In. — According to a report from WTHR a central Indiana family was startled by a rather large snake in a nature park in New Palestine last weekend. Officials from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources say the snake was identified as a Gray Rat Snake.

The Gray Rat Snake is not a poisonous snake, but is a constrictor — and popular with farmers because they dine on rodents.

The woman and her daughters were walking in the Seifert Creek Nature Park, near the center of New Palestine, when the discovery was made. The woman told officials she wasn’t scared, but surprised because the snake was bigger than ones they had seen in the area before. The woman’s daughter wanted to get a stick to try to capture the snake so they could take it home for her father to see.
