MMA fighter, wrestler visits BHS ASL students

BATESVILLE, IN — Mixed martial artist and wrestler Matt Hamill on Monday gave a presentation to approximately 80 Batesville High School students who are currently enrolled in American Sign Language (ASL) classes at the school using spoken word and ASL.

Hamill, who has been deaf since childhood, is a three-time NCAA Division III National Champion in wrestling and is active in the Deaf community.

He shared his story of overcoming adversity and of the importance of perseverance and dedication in pursuing goals.

Hamill’s visit to BHS was funded through a grant from the Batesville Community Education Foundation.
