Marian Margaret Mollaun (nee Hoene), 93, of Batesville passed away on March 13, 2023. Born in Batesville, Indiana on January 20, 1930, Marian was the third of five daughters of Stanley and Stella Hoene, who have preceded her in death, as did her sisters, Jaclyn Hoene, Elvera Shaw, Carol Gauck, and Jean Hortemiller.
Marian was a graduate of Batesville High School and married Eugene “Flud” Mollaun on September 16, 1950. Together they raised four children. Marian was predeceased by her husband “Flud” and son Jay. She is survived by daughters Pam Mollaun and Kim Mollaun-Smith (Jeff) and son Sam Mollaun. Marian’s legacy will also continue through her grandchildren Amy (Craig) Koch, Nathan (LeighAnn) Gunter, Samantha Runyon, Corrin (Ruben) Corral Mollaun, and Bryn Smith, as well as her eleven great-grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as G.G.
Batesville was always her home and Marian cared a great deal for and about it. As a volunteer for the Batesville Beautification League, Marian always did her part to help keep the park and other common areas of Batesville beautiful and took considerable pride in doing so. In addition to the BBL, Marian was always willing to help when asked, participating in a number of other committees to support the community she cared about so deeply. She especially took great pride in her appointment as a lay representative of the Indiana State Hospital Board.
Faith was another important aspect of Marian’s life. A lifelong member of St. Louis Parish, she attended mass and church events regularly, though the pandemic and some physical challenges made it harder these last couple of years. Those difficulties certainly did nothing to diminish her faith as, while fighting with various health issues, she placed her belief and trust in God to take her when ready. A peaceful ending was her wish and one God granted.
Along with community and faith, family also was important to Marian. Particularly so in a small town, the roots and trunk of family can sometimes produce many branches that lead to seemingly endless leaves of siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and the like. Marian was fortunate to belong to an extended family that welcomed, included and supported one another over the years through numerous hardships and losses of loved ones, while also spending many good times together at reunions, social gatherings, or visits on her screened porch. Her presence will most certainly be missed.
Even a well-lived life of 93 years can seem short at the end, so the family would like to invite all who knew and cared for Marian to share in memories and find comfort together through a visitation at Weigel Funeral Home on Friday, March 17 from 4-7 pm. A mass will follow on Saturday, March 18 at 10 am at St. Louis Parish with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating. Please feel free to make memorial contributions to Safe Passage or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
