Mrs. Paula Rae (Sloan) Cloat, age 72, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on June 30, 1953 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Paul Raymond Sloan and Martha Reid McKee. Paula was raised in Prattville, Alabama, before the family moved to the Switzerland County community in 1970. She graduated from Switzerland County High School and attended Ivy Tech Community College and received her cosmetology license from House of James in Madison, Indiana. Paula was united in marriage on August 28, 1982 in Switzerland County, Indiana, to Phillip Layman “Phil” Cloat. This happy blended family shared over 43 years of marriage together until Phil passed away on December 10, 2025. Paula was a former matron for the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department from January 1, 1999 to December 31, 2002. She was a former dispatcher for Switzerland County from November 1994 to December 31, 1998. She was also a bartender for 20 years and was the former bar manager at the Ogle Haus Inn in Vevay, Indiana, for several years. She was a former member of the Switzerland County Sportsman Club, First Class Fire Fighter and First Responder for the Moorefield Community Fire Department, as well as, a former member of the National Sheriff’s Association. She was also a member of the Crestview Baptist Church in Prattville, Alabama. Paula enjoyed the outdoors, horses, camping, painting, and riding motorcycles. Paula passed away at 7:17 a.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.
Paula is survived by her sister, Rocky McKenzie of Holly Hill, FL; her uncle and aunt, Morris Cabell McKee, Jr. and Judy Kay McKee of San Antonio, TX; her step-son, Rick Cloat and his wife, Samantha of Joliet, IL; her step-daughter, Marylee “Shamaine” Griffin of Madison, IN; her grandchildren, Gabriel Alexander, Haley, Megan, Nathan, and Tyrus; her great-grandchildren, Danny, Vivian, and Madison; and her several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Raymond Sloan and Martha Reid McKee; her husband, Phillip Layman “Phil” Cloat; her son, Paul Randall “Randy” Hise; her step-daughter, Lisa Pedigo; her son–in-law, Robert Wayne Griffin; her grandchildren, Morris and Lorraine McKee
