Lady Bulldogs Come Up Short Against Lady Pirates In Both Games

The Batesville Lady Bulldog Softball team was defeated last night by Greensburg by the score of 15-4.

Although the overall score showed improvement by the Bulldogs over the last contest between these two teams, the fielding stat sheet did not. The Pirates scored 2 in the 2nd inning, 6 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th, and 6 more in the 7th while the Bulldogs committed a barag of errors in those innings. In the end the Pirates only earned 4 runs in the game.

The Bulldogs scored their first 2 runs in the second inning.Wilson walked, then Garcia singled to center followed by a 2RBI double by Cornn.

The next 2 runs came in the 5th inning. Laker walked, to start the inning, Huffner sacrificed to move Laker to 2nd. Burkhart flied out to center, then Obermeyer hit a 2 RBI home run over the left field fence.

Obermeyer pitched 5 innings and finished with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks and 1 earned run. Westerfeld pitched 2 innings, striking out 3, walking 4 and giving up 3 earned runs.

Obermeyer finished the game with 2 hits (HR and Single) and 2 RBIs. Cornn finished the game with 1 hit (double) and 2 RBIs. Laker, Huffner, Oldham, Westerfeld, Garcia, and Waechter all had a hit each.

Cornn ended the game with 7 putouts, while Garcia finished with 5. Laker and Obermeyer both had 3 assists each.

Next up – Shelbyville away with a game time of 5:30.

The JV Lady Bulldogs were defeated Thursday night by a score of 8-3 to the visiting Greensburg Lady Pirates.

Hannah Nunlist put the Lady Bulldogs on the board in the second when she doubled and came around to score on a single by Anna Gerth.  The very next inning, Callie Main, Abby Westerfeld, and Paige Oldham had back-to-back-to-back hits to push across two more runs.  The Lady Bulldogs had more opportunities but weren’t able to capitalize.

Batesville pounded out ten hits on the evening with Oldham leading the JV Bulldogs going 3-3 at the plate with a double, two singles, and an RBI.  Westerfeld and Gerth both collected two hits a piece while Main, Gwen Martin, and Nunlist each chipped in with one.

Oldham went all five innings on the bump allowing six hits and two walks.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 4-4 on the season.

Batesville JV softball will next be in action Friday evening as they travel to Shelbyville.
