Kedrowitz sentenced to 100 years for killing younger siblings

The older brother of 11-month-old Nathaniel Ritz (left) and two-year-old Desiree McCartney was sentenced Tuesday to 100 years in prison – 50 years on each count – after he was found guilty by a jury in Ripley Circuit Court back in August on both murder counts in connection with their 2017 deaths.

VERSAILLES, IN — Convicted double murderer Nikalas Kedrowitz was sentenced in Ripley Circuit Court Tuesday to a total of 100 years in prison.

A jury convicted Kedrowitz in August on two murder counts in connection with the 2017 smothering deaths of two younger siblings, two-year-old Desiree McCartney and 11-month-old Nathaniel Ritz, in a pair of incidents separated by 80 days at their home on Maple Street in Osgood.

Kedrowitz was 13 years old at the time of the murders.

Ripley Circuit Judge Ryan King sentenced Kedrowitz to 50-year prison terms on each conviction, which will run consecutively.

Kedrowitz was 17 years old when he stood trial as an adult but was not eligible for the death penalty because of his age.

He could have been sentenced to anywhere from 45 to 65 years on each murder count.

The case went through several stages to reach the sentencing phase, including hearings to determine Kedrowitz’s competency and waiver to adult court.
