James Howard Manely, 94, of Brookville, passed October 9, 2018 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born on October 15, 1923 in Brookville, a son to Ernest W. and Hazel Fieber Manley. James attended Brookville High School and graduated in 1941. He later served in the Navy during WWII on a sub chaser from 1943 to 1946. He married Rose Mary Linderman on July 22, 1950 and together they had one daughter, Debra Manley Davis of Selma, Indiana.
James later remarried to Helen (Quinlan) Stewart on June 7, 1968 in Covington, Kentucky. The two of them enjoyed traveling and took many road trips together. He worked many years at the Brookville Lumber Company his father owned and was founded by his grandfather, Joseph Fieber. After James’ father passed, he and his sister, Margaret (Manley) Bowling, sold the lumber company. In 1973, he began working at D and M Manufacturing Company in Connersville and retired from there in 1985. James had a lifelong love affair with antique autos and owned several classic cars over his lifetime. He was also a member of the Brookville United Methodist Church and Brookville American Legion Bernard Hurst Post #77.
He is survived by a step-sister, Margaret (Manley) Flynn of Mason, OH; one daughter, Debra and husband Denver Davis of Selma; one grandson, Aaron Davis and his wife Alexandra (Garrett) of Texas; a granddaughter, Rachel and her husband Andrew Schuck of Yorktown; one great-granddaughter, Vanessa Davis of Texas; a step-son, Gene Stewart and his wife Becky (White) of Brookville, and a step-daughter, Nancy (Stewart) Hemmer of Brookville. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Bowling, his first wife Rose Mary Linderman and his second wife, Helen Manley.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, October 15, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville. Pastor Steve Rundel of Brookville United Methodist Church will officiate the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home and burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery with the Brookville American Legion, Bernard Hurst Post #77 providing military graveside honors.
