Edward A. Daihl, 66

Edward A. “Ed” Daihl, 66, passed away on October 8, 2018 at his residence in Greensburg.  Ed was born on December 3, 1951 in Huntington, Indiana to Robert E. Daihl and Virginia I. (Orr) Coplea.  Ed graduated from Southwood High School in 1970.  He then earned his bachelor’s from Marion College, his master’s from IUPUI, and his Education Specialist Degree from IU.  Ed was a teacher at Jerman Elementary from 1974 to 1980.  From 1980 until he retired in 2016, Ed was the principal for Washington, Billings, and Greensburg Elementary Schools.  Ed served his community in many ways.  He was a member of the Optimist Club, and previously served as president.  Ed was also a member of ACSD and NAESP, working to improve the quality of education in the local schools.  He was an active member of Community Church of Greensburg, serving in various roles since the inception of the church.  Ed loved fishing, wood working, and restoring antique lawn tractors.  While he enjoyed his service and his hobbies, his family was the most important to him.  He was a devoted husband, loving teacher, and beloved grandfather.  Ed married Cindy Lichty on June 5, 1976 and she survives.  Ed is survived by his wife; Cindy Daihl, Greensburg, two daughters; Emily (Dustin) Lafferty, Bloomington, IN, Megan (Adam) Parks, Niceville, FL, one brother; Richard L. “Rick” (Robin) Daihl, Naperville, IL, brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Phil (Brenda) Bogear, Bloomington, IN, and six grandchildren; Nathan, Connor, Michael, and Anna Lafferty, Audrey and Nora Parks.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and step-father; Gene Coplea.  Visitation will be on Friday, October 12 from 3-7 pm at the Community Church of Greensburg.  A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 13 at 10 am at the Community Church of Greensburg with Jim Newberry and Seth Bartal officiating.  Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Community Church of Greensburg or Greensburg Elementary School.  Online condolences can be made to the family at www.popfuneralhome.com
