It’s Municipal Election Day

(Southeastern IN) – It is Municipal Election Day, but there are very few contested races on area ballots.

In the City of Batesville, the lone contested race is in Council District 1, where Republican Jerry Ertel is challenging Democratic incumbent Darrick Cox.

2020 Census results indicate Batesville’s population crossed the 7,000 threshold, which means new rules when it comes to city elections. Residents can no longer vote for all council districts. Instead, you can only vote for city council in the district where you live.

City residents of Ripley County are voting at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Delaware Road. However, since there are no contested races in District 4, the Franklin County Election Board chose not to open a polling place in the Batesville city limits.

The only voting in Franklin County is taking place in Laurel, where eight candidates are vying for five town council seats; and two candidates are running for clerk-treasurer.

In Decatur County, there are clerk-treasurer races in Westport and St. Paul.

Also in Westport, voters will decide if the town council should continue with three members or increase that number to five.

Voting in St. Paul is being held at the Bruner Event Center and in Westport at the Community Building.

There are also contested mayor and city council races in Lawrenceburg, Aurora, and Greendale.

The polls are open until 6 p.m.

After the polls close, WRBI will have election results when they come in tonight on-air and on the General Election Coverage page on wrbiradio.com.
