BATESVILLE – Batesville High School student Bryan Hoeing is making a name for himself on the basketball court and baseball field. The senior is capping off his summer with an opportunity to showcase his talents at an iconic ballpark in Chicago.
Hoeing is one of only 36 high school baseball players named to the 2014 Under Armor All-America Baseball Game at Wrigley Field Saturday at 7:05 p.m. EST.
“Under Armor All-Americans are [chosen] not only for success on the field but off the field as well,” Hoeing said. “You have to be active in the community and do well in school. I am honored to play in this game it is really exciting.”
The participating players are selected by baseball scouts and compete against each other in an American vs. National team match-up.
Hoeing will play on the American squad managed by Bill Ripken, brother of Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. The National team is coached by former Cincinnati Red Sean Casey.
Notable players participating include the class of 2015 top rated prospect Dazmon Cameron, of Georgia, and Kody Clemens, son of former Major League pitcher Roger Clemens.
“It’s the top 36 players in the nation, so I will be pitching against the top hitters in the nation. I am looking forward to it and the challenge,” Hoeing said.
The Bulldog star’s pitching repertoire features a curveball, changeup and a fastball topping out at 94 mph.
Watching other players have success on the mound isn’t anything new to Hoeing. His cousin, Alex Meyer, is currently a pitcher in the Minnesota Twins organization.
Tickets to the All-America Game are free and can be retrieved by contacting the family through Batesville High School. The game will air nationally on MLB Network on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. EST.
Hoeing is a University of Louisville commit.
