Greensburg resident, combat vet files to run for Congress

SOUTHEASTERN IN — A Greensburg resident and two other Republicans have filed to fill the Ninth Congressional District seat being vacated by Trey Hollingsworth.

Stu Barnes-Israel is a fifth-generation Decatur County resident and a combat veteran.

He was awarded the Bronze Star following a year-long tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Corydon resident Bill J. Thomas, who lost in the 2014 Democratic primary for the 9th district seat, has filed for the same seat but this time as a Republican.

Also filing on the GOP side in the May primary is State Senator Erin Houchin of Salem.

Bloomington North High School math teacher Matt Fyfe has entered the race on the Democratic Party ticket.

Libertarian candidate Tonya Mills has also turned in paperwork to run for the congressional seat

Voters in Ripley, Franklin, Decatur, and Dearborn counties will vote in the Ninth Congressional District race starting with the May 3 Primary as a result of redistricting.
