Governor signs election security bill into law

Governor Eric Holcomb

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Governor Eric Holcomb on Tuesday signed a bill that will bring new voting machines to Indiana which will provide a voter-verifiable paper audit trail before the 2024 Presidential election.

The state was looking to bring the machines to Indiana by 2029, but the new law bumps it up to no later than summer 2024.

House Enrolled Act 1116, which is commonly referred to as the election security bill, also requires anyone who wants to vote absentee to submit their driver’s license or the last four digits of their Social Security number before a ballot is sent to them.

The new law went into effect immediately.
