George F. Mehlon

George F. Mehlon, age 73 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Born June 10, 1950, in Batesville, he is the son of George A. and Virginia (Nee: Lamppert) Mehlon.  He married Yvonne Gauck on September 11, 1971, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville. George was an Engineer at Delta Faucet for 45 years, before retiring in 2015.

George (aka – Maynard) Mehlon was a devoted husband and a proud father. He adored his wife (Lizzy), and he would do anything to provide for his family. He was an incredibly hard-working man with a generous heart! George was very proud of the life he built and the foundation he laid for his family. George was a quiet, yet humble man. His charisma and character can be seen through the relationships he made. George was known for his sense of humor, infectious laugh, one-liners, and the incredibly loud and signature sneeze! All those little nuances you come to love about a person were what we call our “Maynard-isms”. It’s what made him a loving husband and what gave him the nickname “Maynard”. It’s what made him Dad!

Throughout his life, he was an avid reader. He was known to finish a good book in a matter of days. It kept his mind sharp and the debates debatable. Getting the occasional “rise” out of George was treat for all to experience. You got to see his passions come to life! One of the many passions George had was his appreciation for his Country, a true Patriot! He would spend hours of his day watching the birds feed below the American Flag. George was a dreamer at heart. He often fantasized about visiting the Moon! He would regularly tease his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild if they had those very same aspirations of becoming an astronaut. If you were lucky, you would catch George baking one of his famous apple pies on a Saturday or Sunday morning! He inherited his incredible skill of baking from his mother (Virginia). His apple pie paired great with ice cream and would rarely last the day.

George may have been an engineer by trade, but he was a Master Woodworker and Carpenter at his core. George’s work can be seen throughout his home, and throughout the homes of his family and friends. As the family began to grow, he did what George was known to do. To find a way… To provide!  In late 1978, George would go on to design, construct, and finish his dream home along with his family and friends. He would finally finish building his home in 1979, and as his passion for carpentry grew, so did his ambitions for a woodshop. Over the next three decades George would accumulate all the tools he would need to fill that dream woodshop. George built beautiful hard wood furniture, such as clocks, bedroom suites, coffee tables, cutting boards, beer mugs, and everything in-between. His one of many ways of showing his love was through his craft, and these heirlooms will forever be cherished for generations to come. His hands, his mind, and his heart were his true gift to this world. This Gentle Giant, George (Maynard) will be forever missed!  As his siblings and family would carry on saying, “To GEORGE!!!”

He is survived by his wife Yvonne of Batesville; daughter Gwen (Mike) Reverman of Batesville; sons Chad (Cara) Mehlon of Carmel, Indiana and Brad (Jenny) Mehlon of Batesville; sister Melissa (Elly) Musleh of Carmel; brothers Randy (Julie) Mehlon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Mick (Mary) Mehlon and Gerry (Amy) Mehlon, all of Batesville; grandchildren Cassie, Hunter, Karly, Ava Rae, Lily, Nathan, and Ethan; great granddaughter Za’Kira and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his stillborn daughter April Ann Mehlon and brother Gerald Mehlon.
