Mr. David Michael “Mike” Bear, age 73, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on July 11, 1950 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He was the son of the late Lowary Ray and Virginia Ann (Brooks) Bear. He was raised in Vevay, Indiana and was a 1968 graduate of the Vevay High School. Mike later graduated from Indiana Barber College in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mike was united in marriage to Carol “Sue” Griffin on February 15, 1969 in Fairview, Indiana. He owned and operated Golden Shear Barbershop in Vevay, Indiana, from 1972-2017. Mike served on county council from 2014-2021 and also served on the Switzerland County Tourism Board. Mike also organized and managed On the River’ Car Show in Vevay, Indiana, from 2006-2016. Mike was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Bear Branch, Indiana. He was an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed buying and selling cars and fishing. Mike passed away with his loving family by his side at 8:57 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2024, at his residence.
Mike is survived by his wife, Carol “Sue” (Griffin) Bear of Vevay, IN; his daughter, Traci Earls and her husband, Clinton of Vevay, IN; his son, Mike Bear of Vevay, IN; his grandchildren, Paige Earls, Mallory Bear, Brinley Bear and Pailyn Earls; his sisters, Beverly Jones and her husband, Ronald of Lebanon, TN, Debbie Gregory and her husband, Eddie of Florence, IN and Cathy Eldridge and her husband, Wade of Charlestown, IN; his brother, Gerald R. Bear of Vevay, IN; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Theresa Griffin of Vevay, IN and Vicki Bear of Moorefield, IN and his several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Sue Bear, died June 8, 1975; his father, Lowary Ray Bear, died May 24, 2018; his mother, Virginia Ann (Brooks) Bear, died January 22, 2020; his brothers, Calvin Gregory Bear, died June 11, 1973 and Elbert Lynn Bear, died November 16, 2000; his sister, Sharon LeMasters, died May 7, 2023; his nephew, Clayton Gregory Bear, died January 20, 2010; his infant niece, April Lynn Griffin, died July 4, 1972 and his niece, Samantha Nicole “Sami” Griffin, died June 24, 2014.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2024, and from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., by Pastor Patrick Lanman, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Bear Branch, Indiana.
