Southeastern, IN — Low relative humidity combined with gusty winds and low fuel moisture Saturday lead to increased fire danger across central and southeastern Indiana. Area firemen battle multiple fires in the region.

The Versailles Fire and Rescue started their weekend off with a Jeep fire at the Marathon Station in Versailles at the corner of US 421 and 50.  There were no injuries reported in that fire and both highways remained open during the incident.  In total, Versailles Fire and rescue made 10 calls over the weekend which included assisting the Osgood Volunteer Fire Department with a house fire and Friendship Volunteer Fire Department with a barn fire.

In Franklin County, the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) responded to a dispatch of a large field fire.  The Metamora Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) assisted at the scene.  On Sunday, the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call for a large woods fire and was provided mutual aid from both the LVFD and MVFD.  While on that call, the LVFD was dispatched to a second brush fire that led to the woods.  MVFD also assisted with this fire.  Other organizations that assisted in the fire calls included the Oldenburg Volunteer Fire Department, Brookville Volunteer Fire Department, Everton Volunteer Fire Department, Anderson Township Volunteer Fire Department, Laurel EMS #3, and Stat Flight.

Friday morning the Westport Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on South County Road 695 West. The home was completely destroyed in the fire.  No injuries were reported.  The Letts Volunteer Fire Department and Decatur County EMS assisted with the fire.
