Indianapolis, In. — Religious leaders from across the state are gathering at the statehouse today to renew a call for hate crimes legislation and remember the victims of the recent shooting in New Zealand. The “Moment of Action” will include prayers for healing and at least 10 faith leaders will address the crowd.
In a press release from Indiana Forward the group says, “As lawmakers offer their “thoughts and prayers” for the victims of bias crimes, Indiana’s faith communities will gather to tell legislators, “WE will provide the prayer…YOU provide the action.”Communities around the state are planning complementary events and joining the Moment of Action using the hashtag #WePrayYouAct.”
The list of speakers includes:

- Rabbi Brett Krichiver, Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, Jewish Community;
- Dr. Anita Gupta, Hindu Temple/Hindu Community;
- Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis and Southern Indiana;
- Pastor John Girton, Indianapolis Christ Missionary Baptist Church;
- Pastor Melody Merida, Downey Avenue Christian Church;
- Bishop Douglas Sparks, Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana;
- K.P. Singh, Sikh Community;
- Carolyn Higginbotham, Central Christian Church;
