CINCINNATI – A local athlete recently had the opportunity to compete in the 2014 Cincinnati Reds Baseball Skills Champions Day at Great American Ball Park.
Conner Ertel, 10, of Batesville, competed against other Tri-State top scorers in the third and fourth grade age bracket and finished sixth overall.
The fourth grader at St. Louis School in Batesville said he really enjoyed his experience at the stadium.
“My favorite part was probably seeing my name up on the big screen! They post all the names up there and where they were from and I finally saw my name,” Ertel recalled.
Over 1,100 boys and girls age six to fourteen participated in the 2014 season of the Cincinnati reds Baseball and Softball Camps. During camp, each player competed in a skills competition consisting of batting, fielding, throwing and running skills.
At the conclusion of the summer, the top ten finishers in each age category competed at Champions Day at GABP.
Ertel competes on a traveling team and says his favorite baseball position is outfield.
The multi-sport athlete says his attention is now shifted to football where he plays running back.
