Blaze Destroys Vacant Home In St. Mary’s

FRANKLIN COUNTY — Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a blaze in a vacant home in St. Mary’s early Saturday morning.

Firefighters arrived at 17439 St. Mary’s Road around 1:30 a.m. to discover smoke coming from the roof, said Ben Nobbe, 2nd assistant fire chief with Eagle Fire Company in Oldenburg.

Nobbe added that no one was injured and the department was assisted by firefighters from Batesville and Brookville.

The preliminary cause of the fire is believed to be electrical as the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
