Early lead for East Central enough for win against Batesville

East Central varsity baseball pulled away, winning 7-2 in a Monday night matchup with Batesville.

In the bottom of the first inning, Eli Aston hit a home run for the Trojans to cut the Batesville lead to one. Then East Central tied things up at two when Jake Bryant drew a walk, scoring one run.

The Trojans pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning. In the second, LincolnWillhelm drew a walk, scoring one run, and Jack Grunkemeyer induced Roy to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run was scored.

East Central scored three runs in the fourth inning on a groundout by Roy.

Max Hotze led things off on the mound for East Central. The hurler surrendered two runs on five hits over four innings, striking out seven.

Grunkemeyer was on the pitcher’s mound for the Bulldogs. Grunkemeyer allowed three hits and four runs over two innings, striking out one. Jaiden Kuria and Eli Loichinger entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three innings and one inning, respectively.

Batesville’s lone home run in the game came from Grunkemeyer in the first inning.

Charlie Schebler led the Bulldogs with two hits in four at-bats.

East Central racked up six hits on the day. Sam Bond and Aston all managed multiple hits for the Trojans. East Central was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.

The Trojans and Bulldogs will meet again on Thursday, April 10, at Batesville. The game’s scheduled start time is at 5:30 pm.
