(Greensburg, IN) – A drug dealer who pleaded guilty in Decatur County late last month to a Level 4 felony count of Dealing in Methamphetamine and admitted to being a habitual offender has been sentenced to 19 years.

Stacy Hess was sentenced on Monday in Decatur Circuit Court by Judge Tim Day to 13 years in prison and six years on probation.

The penalty was the result of a plea agreement between the prosecution and defense attorneys.

The charges stemmed from Hess’ arrest in May 2021in Greensburg. She was originally charged with dealing and possessing meth, unlawful possession of a hypodermic needle, and marijuana possession.

Decatur County Prosecutor Nate Harter said Hess’ criminal history includes four misdemeanors and several felonies: Escape (Level 5 felony); Burglary (A Class C felony); 16 counts of Theft (all Class D felonies); Burglary (Class B felony); Dealing in a Look-a-like Substance (Class C felony); Receiving Stolen Property, Receiving Stolen Auto Parts, and Receiving Stolen Auto Parts (all Class D felonies), and Burglary (Class C felony).

“This conviction is the last in a series of interconnected dealing cases, taking down a spiderweb of people dealing poison into our community. Greensburg Police Department and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department were both intimately involved in solving these cases, including Ms. Hess’s,” said Harter. “I am pleased to see law enforcement working together to combat the trafficking of dangerous drugs in our community.

“Ms. Hess is going to have roughly a decade behind bars to think about her previous choices and what she might do differently in the future,” Harter added.
