Area hit with surprise heavy snowfall

Southeastern IN — Talk about a Sunday morning surprise.

The area was hit with several inches of snow early yesterday despite early predictions of 1 to 2.

A Winter Storm Warning was issued but was canceled several hours before it was set to expire, thanks to temperatures warming to above the freezing mark.

However, there were a number of slide-offs around Southeastern Indiana.

On I-74 between Batesville and Sunman, multiple trucks were reported off the highway at one time.

INDOT-Southeast had over 150 yellow trucks treating the roads at the height of the storm.

Dearborn County was under an Orange travel Watch for much of Sunday but was moved to a Yellow Travel Advisory.

Ripley and Franklin counties were also placed under Yellow advisories.

A number of churches around the area canceled Sunday morning services because of the hazardous road conditions.

Meantime, the National Weather Service says to expect more snow this week.

A low-pressure system will bring another round of accumulating snow to the region Tuesday night into Wednesday, and is expected to impact the Wednesday morning commute.
