4-H Fair Parade Set to Roll

(Greensburg, IN) — Lawn chairs, candy bags and a whole lot of tractors — Decatur County’s biggest summer tradition is almost here.

The 2026 Decatur County 4-H Fair Parade steps off at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 12, celebrating this year’s theme, “Harvesting the American Dream.”

Participants should arrive for lineup between 2 and 4 p.m. Volunteers will be on hand to help with staging, and anyone who didn’t pre-register is still welcome — just show up on parade day and organizers will assign a spot in line.

This year’s Grand Marshals are the American Legion and the VA Color Guard, who’ll be shuttled throughout the parade by Power of the Past.

Parade Awards

Judges stationed along the route will hand out four $25 awards:

  • Best Entry Representing the Theme, “Harvesting the American Dream”
  • Most Enthusiastic Entry
  • Best Overall Design
  • Entry with the Most Participants (Riders or Walkers)

The Route

Participants will leave S. Ireland Street and head down Park Road, turning left into the Decatur County Fairgrounds just before the Animal Shelter. Semi-trucks and wreckers will stay on Park Road and won’t enter the fairgrounds.

Once inside, the parade continues to the third gravel drive, turns right past the Horse Barn, then winds through the fairgrounds with a right, a left past the Headquarters Office, a right along the Commercial Building, and a final left between the Commercial Building and the new Community Building onto S. County Road 200 W.

After the parade: those needing to unload should turn left toward the Decatur County Highway Department, while everyone else exits right toward Main Street.

Parade organizer Chris Ramey is still looking for three volunteers to help with lineup, plus judges to station along the route. Anyone interested is encouraged to reach out before parade day.

Thank You to Community Partners

Ramey extended his appreciation to the organizations and volunteers who help make the parade possible each year, including the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Greensburg Police Department, Greensburg Street Department, City of Greensburg Board of Works, Decatur County Commissioners, Power of the Past Volunteers, and the many lineup volunteers who show up on parade day.
