Fever Mark WNBA’s 30th Year

From a historic halftime ceremony Saturday to All-Star voting closing this weekend, it’s a pivotal stretch for the Fever and their fans.

The Indiana Fever are turning this Saturday night into one for the history books — and for the next few months, Gainbridge Fieldhouse will be the place to be for WNBA basketball in Indianapolis.

WNBA pioneer Val Ackerman coming to Indy for halftime honor

The Fever will host Inspiring Women Night presented by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield on Saturday, June 27, when the team takes on the Los Angeles Sparks at 8 p.m. ET. The evening’s centerpiece: a halftime ceremony honoring Val Ackerman, the WNBA’s founding president, with the Lin Dunn Inspiring Women Award.

Ackerman led the league from its very first tip-off in 1996 through 2005, guiding it through its first eight seasons and laying the groundwork for what the WNBA has become. As the league celebrates its 30th anniversary season, she’ll be joined on the court by Fever legend Tamika Catchings for a live interview reflecting on three decades of women’s professional basketball.

The connection to Indianapolis runs deep. Fever Team President Kelly Krauskopf joined the WNBA in its inaugural season and worked alongside Ackerman during those early years. Saturday night will be a reunion of sorts — and a reminder of how far the league has come.

Last call: WNBA All-Star voting closes Saturday
